In the Beginning...
Cinetyp began in Switzerland in 1937, a country with four official languages. The founders of Cinetyp had previously created "inter-titles," the title cards used in silent movies. Inter-titles appeared between the filmed action, and could be easily substituted when translating the film to any language.
With the advent of the "talkies," subtitles -- text shown over the action -- were created so that the translation could appear at the same time the actors spoke. Cinetyp quickly became a leader in the new technology of subtitles for sound motion pictures.
Coming to America...
Cinetyp's presence in the U.S. began in 1980. Over the past two and a half decades, the company has subtitled more than 4,500 films. Cinetyp's Hollywood lab has grown into a large, hi-tech operation, located in the heart of the Los Angeles entertainment industry.
Cinetyp proudly serves the subtitling and captioning needs of motion picture studios and video production companies of all sizes.
Cinetyp is one of the premier subtitling and captioning firms in the world, with clients ranging from small Hollywood production companies to large international motion picture studios.
Cinetyp., Inc. is located in the heart of Hollywood, California, on historic Seward Street. We've been at the same location and under the same ownership for over 25 years.
For your film's protection, our private, secure facilities are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our security includes recorded video monitoring and employee hand-print identification. Our facilities here at Cinetyp are both MPAA and studio inspected and approved.
Our film and video labs sport the latest in modern technology, but we still do business the old-fashioned way: Our clients are people, not just just purchase orders and e-mail names. Integrated circuits, high-powered lasers, and fancy computer software mean nothing without creative partnership. We encourage our clients to make us an integral part of their production. Call us...we're happy to help!
